The Black Dog Pub Company was born when owner and founder Paul took a punt on a charming little black dog who he named Ringo, and so it began….

Ringo was involved in decision making from the start “this pub should have dog bowls” “let’s put my face on a beer badge” “I really like this butcher” Then one day, “Let’s expand!” Currently The Black Dog has four territories conquered, and always looking for new posts. Let us know if he should sniff out something near you.

People are always curious about the Black Dog Pub Company so with that in mind here are a few answers to some common questions

Why is that dog wearing a Pilgrim hat?
Ringo is proud to live in one of London’s oldest pubs ‘The Mayflower’. Its history is rich and known to be the mooring point of The Mayflower ship in 1620, which transported Pilgrims to Plymouth. He also likes hats.

Is that a face on the end of his pipe?
Yes. Well spotted. That is indeed Paul’s face!

Who is the talented artist behind the painting of Ringo ?
Ed Gray is the artist behind the picture of Ringo. You can see more of his work here

Didn’t you used to be called The Rotherhithe Pub Co?
Yup. But then we got a pub in Kennington, so…

What kind of dog is that? Is he a labradoodle?
Ringo is a cross between an Airedale and a Poodle, officially an Airedoodle, which means he’s as daft as a brush and as cuddly as a teddy bear. He’s bouncy and loving but doesn’t quite realise he’s a big dog!

What other areas or pubs are you going to?
Ringo is currently looking at the North side of the river but is open to suggestions.
